Giving Recovery a Fighting Chance with Jordan’s Jumpstart

At Community Lending of America, we believe that a strong community starts with a stable home. But for those transitioning out of treatment or incarceration, the first step into a new life is often the hardest and the most expensive.

This month, we are honored to spotlight Jordan’s Jumpstart to Recovery, a Kansas City-based nonprofit that is turning grief into a legacy of hope.

The Story Behind the Mission

Jordan was widely described as a magnetic presence, the kind of person who could be friends with anyone and would give you the shirt off his back. After his passing in August 2023, his friends Geno, Alexander, and Joseph knew they had to keep his spirit of kindness alive.

By December of that same year, they launched Jordan’s Jumpstart to help others find the same life-changing stability they found in the Oxford House model.

Breaking the Cycle: The Scholarship Initiative

The biggest hurdle to lasting recovery is often the immediate cost of sober living. Many individuals leave treatment with a desire to change but without the funds to secure a bed.

Jordan’s Jumpstart bridges that gap by providing:

  • The initial housing deposit.
  • The first week’s rent in an Oxford House.
  • A stable foundation so individuals can focus on their recovery instead of their finances.

175 Lives Changed (And Counting)

In just one year, this organization has provided scholarships to 175 individuals right here in Kansas City.

Currently, limited funding allows them to help about 1 to 3 people per week. However, the need is much greater. With more resources, they could expand that “jumpstart” to the dozens of others who apply every month seeking a fresh start.

“If you know anyone in the community coming out of incarceration, someone battling addiction, and they’re trying to get back on their feet… this is the organization. This is the love.” — Jeremy Marks, CLA Founder
