Hello Community!

The Alzheimer’s Association’s mission is to lead the way in ending Alzheimer’s. They are accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support. Their vision is, “a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia”. They show care and support through a local and national level by providing for those affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias. They are the largest nonprofit funder for Alzheimer’s research and they are committed to finding methods of treatment, prevention, and one day, a cure. They are also an advocate for finding and providing care, research and support. They have a 24/7 hotline available for constant help and information. They also have local chapters all across the nation equipped to help those dealing with alzheimer’s and other dementias.

The local chapter that we want to focus on is the Heart of America chapter. They provide support and information for 50,000 individuals and 200,000 family members. They serve 65 counties in the Kansas and Missouri area. They have become a trusted resource that provides information, training, education and support. Starting in August they will host their Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The walk raises money across the area to continue research and provide support.

The Heart of America chapter provides a way for people who are in the early stages of Alzheimer’s to stay socially active. They host a memory cafe on the fourth Wednesday of every month where care partners can attend with the individual in a safe and supportive setting to create new bonds and connection. On the third Thursday of every month they host jam sessions where everyone can gather, sing songs, play instruments, dance or simply listen. They also host an informative community corner on the first Wednesday of every month along with a caregiver book club.

If you would like to support the Heart of America chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, there are many ways in which you can do so. You can volunteer your time by becoming an advocate, community educator or representative. You can also participate in events like the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. You can get your workplace to donate or donate a vehicle. Lastly, you can directly give financial support to the Heart of America Chapter.

We’re happy to highlight this organization as they are making a difference in the world for those impacted by Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
