What is Amethyst Place?

Amethyst Place was created by community leaders to help single mothers and their children break the cycle of substance use. Many of these women had nowhere safe to go after treatment and were forced to return to the environments where their addiction began. Since opening in May 2000, Amethyst Place has provided safe housing and support to over 384 families and 742 children, helping them build healthier, more stable lives.

Services at Amethyst Place

  • Lives Impacted
    • Amethyst Place served 163 women and children, offering long-term support with no time limit on housing—giving families the time they need to build lasting change.
  • Housing Stability
    • Families stayed an average of 28 months. Since 2020, 90% of graduates remained stably housed, showing the program’s success in ending homelessness.
  • Reunification
    • Most children started in out-of-home placements. By year-end, 96% were reunited with their mothers at Amethyst Place—far above the national average of 44%.
  • Overcoming Poverty
    • 86% of women were employed, in school, or both. Compared to when they arrived (40% employed, 0% in school), 29 women were in education or training, and 30 were working—marking major progress toward financial independence.

Join us May 22nd!

Amethyst Place is turning 25!

May marks the 25th anniversary of our incorporation back in 2000. We couldn’t have reached this milestone and transformed the lives of over 400 families without the support of our donors, volunteers, and community supporters.

To celebrate, we are hosting an intimate happy hour event on May 22 from 4–6 pm. Community Lending of America, Inc. and Serendipity Labs are generously hosting the event on our behalf at their coworking space in Overland Park.

The happy hour event will include light refreshments and the launch of our 25th anniversary Amethyst Place merchandise.

At the event, we will also be collecting gift cards for Amethyst Place families to home furnishing stores like Walmart, Target, Home Goods, Amazon, TJ Maxx, and others. These gift cards will be distributed to AP families so they can purchase items to make their new house at the Tracy Campus feel like home.

We look forward to seeing you there!
