Congratulations to Meals on Wheels Lee’s Summit on Their 50th Anniversary!
In 1974, Lee’s Summit residents Lois Elbel and Linda Dempsey recognized a local need for assistance with meal preparations. Inspired by the Meals on Wheels program in Indiana, they founded a similar initiative in their city.
Starting with only fifteen clients, Meals on Wheels of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, has since delivered over 600,000 meals. Today, the organization serves approximately 350 meals weekly, thanks to the dedication of over 160 volunteers who continue Lois and Linda’s legacy.
Our services ensure that people can meet their dietary needs while maintaining their independence. This allows them to comfortably stay in their own homes with the respect and dignity they deserve. We serve a wide range of individuals in Lee’s Summit, MO, including the elderly, disabled, and those who may feel socially isolated.
Potential clients can learn about our services through hospitals, doctors, churches, social service organizations, and personal recommendations. Our program is particularly beneficial for individuals who are homebound, have limited mobility, find it challenging to prepare nutritious meals regularly, or are recovering after rehabilitation.
To receive our services, clients must be present to accept meal deliveries between 11 am and 12:30 pm on weekdays and reside within the boundaries of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, or the LS-R7 School District.
Meals on Wheels of Lee’s Summit, MO, is dedicated to supporting those who may find it difficult to manage their own meals due to age or health issues. Beyond meal delivery, we promote a healthy lifestyle as a key component of overall well-being.
