Homebuyer Workshop

We all hit that point where we are ready to start looking for a house. Maybe it’s because you need more space, or maybe you’re tired of paying rent and not building any equity.

Whatever the reason may be, if you are considering purchasing a home, you probably have a thousand questions, especially if you’re a first-time home buyer. Here at Community Lending of America, we offer free educational workshops to learn the basics of homeownership. We cover the process of purchasing a home from start to finish. This includes getting ready to buy a home, shopping for and buying your home, getting your mortgage, closing your loan, and being a successful homeowner after the contracts are signed.

Getting Ready to Buy a Home

Not knowing where to start can feel overwhelming. At our home buyer workshop, we prepare you for the things you need to do in order to start the home buying process. We discuss credit, where it comes from, how to establish or regain good credit, and how to get a copy of your credit report. We talk about budgeting and how to identify your expenses while keeping it logical and simple. We’ll discuss the advantages and disadvantages of buying and renting, and well as the prequalification process.

Buying Your Home & Having a Mortgage

If you are ready to start the process of buying a home, we’ll prepare you for that as well. We discuss realtors, home buyer checklists, making an offer, home inspection, and other expenses.

The idea of a mortgage can feel daunting and a lot of people don’t know that they have many options when it comes to your mortgage, loan types and down payments.

If you come to our home buyer workshop, you will learn about all of your options as well as the advantages and disadvantages that come with them.

Closing & Being a Successful Homeowner

Closing day is exciting and sometimes it’s easy to forget that there are things you need to bring or prepare for. We’ll remind you of those as well as what you need to expect to receive at your closing. Once you are officially a homeowner, you have a responsibility to maintain and care for your new place. The last thing Community Lending discusses at our home buyer workshop are ways to be a successful homeowner.

We love supporting our community from start to finish and we hope that our workshop represents that!
